Growing
criticism of the “euthanasia” operation—such as a sermon given
by Clemens Galen, the Catholic Bishop of Muenster on August 3,
1941—prompted Hitler to terminate the operation officially.
Practically, however, it continued under improved camouflage until
the end of the war. By September 1, 1941, when the operation was
officially terminated, 70,273 people had been “purged,”
according to T4 figures; by the end of 1941, T4 reported that 93,521
beds had been made available for other purposes. |
