Listing of the record groups in the Yad Vashem Archives

The following is a partial listing of the record groups in the Yad Vashem Archives.  This listing includes the vast majority of record groups in our archives.

Not all of these record groups are open for public use.  Some of the record groups have limitations placed on them.  The access to some is limited by law, some have limitations placed on them by the organization from whence Yad Vashem acquired them.  Some personal documents and testimonies have been closed to the public by those who contributed them to Yad Vashem.

There are finding aids for most of our record groups.

We are currently in the process of  creating a computerized catalogue for all of our holdings.  This index is not yet complete, and at the moment exists only in Hebrew.

Many of our holdings which are not included in the computerized catalogue have finding aids in print.

Nonetheless, we must emphasize that there are many record groups for which no finding aids, or only minimal finding aids, are available.

Generally, the record group title reflects either the source of the material or the subject with which the record group deals with. The record groups vary in size- ranging from thousands of microfilms to a couple of boxes of material.

There are over 220 record groups. Each record group has a name and a notation. The notation includes a prefix, in letters, and a number.  The prefix gives you an idea of the kind of record group it is:

  • TR- post war trials.

  • O- thematic collections.

  • P- personal archives and private collections

  • M- collections arranged by provenance
    (institutional archives)

  • R- Nazi documentation

  • VT- video testimonies.
