Editors’
Remarks
Just
prior to publication, Yad Vashem Jerusalem was made aware of
Yad Vashem’s receipt of the prestigious “Israel Prize for Lifetime
Achievement—A Unique Contribution to Society and to the State.” On the
eve of its 50th year, Yad Vashem was cited as
“represent[ing] a symbol and a model of the unity of the Jewish
people…that attracts all sections of the population and serves as a
source of identification for individuals in Israel and worldwide.”
This issue of
the magazine provides an introduction to Yad Vashem’s planned program
of events and activities for its Jubilee year (2003-2004), while
simultaneously focusing on the multifaceted central topic of Holocaust
Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day 2003: “Jewish Resistance During
the Holocaust: Sixty Years Since the
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.”
