(February 5, 2008 - Jerusalem) The Director-General of UNESCO
(The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization), Koichiro Matsuura, will visit Yad Vashem
tomorrow, February 6, 2008.
Recently Yad Vashem cooperated with UNICEF on events marking
International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27. The first
International Youth Congress at Yad Vashem’s International
School for Holocaust Studies (January 27-29) took place under
the patronage of UNESCO, and UNESCO’s commemoration event in
Paris took place with Yad Vashem’s cooperation. A special Yad
Vashem exhibit, “Auschwitz: The Depth of the Abyss” opened in
the UNESCO building in Paris to mark the day. During the
course of his visit tomorrow, the Director-General will
discuss ways to further cooperate with Yad Vashem,
particularly in the field of education, especially teacher
-training.
