The Prime Minister of the United
Kingdom, Gordon Brown, together with his wife Sarah, visited Yad
Vashem on Sunday, July 20, 2008. Brown was elected Prime Minister
in June 2007. This is his second visit to Israel and his first as
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The visit included a guided tour of
the Holocaust History Museum and the Hall of Names, a memorial
ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance, and a visit to the Children’s
Memorial.
At the conclusion of his visit Prime
Minister Brown wrote the following in the Visitors’ Book in Janusz
Korczak Square:
Nothing prepares one for the story
that is told here – of the atrocities that should never have
happened, and the truth that everyone who loves humanity should
know. We must always remember, so that prejudice, discrimination,
racism and anti-semitism be banished from our world.
