Robert Ley, Head of the “German Labor Front” committed suicide in his detention cell in Nuremberg before his trial began. Hermann Göring, Commander of the German Air Force and one of the heads of the Nazi regime, sentenced to death by the court, also committed suicide by swallowing poison in his cell before his sentence could be carried out. As a result of these incidents, prisoner security was strengthened in order to thwart further suicide attempts.
